President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday paid a visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where he joined members of the Men’s Ministry of the Ringway Assemblies of God Church for a fellowship with inmates.

The visit, which combined worship and outreach, saw the delegation interact with prisoners through moments of prayer, praise, and spiritual encouragement aimed at uplifting their morale.
As part of the engagement, the group presented a substantial donation of food items and essential supplies to support the daily needs of inmates. The items included large quantities of rice, maize, gari, sugar, cooking oil, and assorted canned goods such as tomato paste, spaghetti, and sardines.

Addressing the inmates, President Mahama underscored the importance of showing compassion to persons in custody, stressing that incarceration should not strip individuals of dignity or hope. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the welfare and rehabilitation of prisoners.
He announced plans to assist in upgrading sports facilities at the prison to promote physical activity and well-being among inmates. In addition, he revealed that the Lordina Foundation would step in to help address healthcare needs within the facility.

The delegation also toured ongoing development projects at the prison, including a poultry farm with a capacity of 5,000 layers and a remand block designed to accommodate up to 800 inmates. The projects are part of broader efforts to reduce congestion and improve living conditions at the facility.

The visit forms part of continued outreach efforts by faith-based groups and stakeholders to support rehabilitation and reintegration within Ghana’s prison system.
