The Minority in Parliament has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), accusing him of delivering what they describe as a “False State of the Nation” instead of addressing Ghana’s real economic situation.
Speaking at the True State of the Nation Address on Monday, March 3, 2025, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus stated that Mahama’s address was riddled with propaganda rather than a factual assessment of the country’s economy.
They argued that instead of calling for national unity to tackle existing challenges, the President focused on scoring political points.
“Rather than presenting a true reflection of the economy, Mahama chose to do propaganda, and we can assure you that this propaganda will come to hit and hurt him hard,” the NPP stated.
According to the Minority, the President failed to acknowledge the economic recovery achieved under the previous government, particularly the sharp drop in inflation from 54% in 2022 to 23% in 2023.
They claimed that Mahama deliberately ignored other crucial economic indicators such as real GDP growth, trade balance, and the performance of the financial sector, which they believe paint a better picture of Ghana’s progress.
