The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, marched to the Police Headquarters in Accra to present a petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The move, according to the caucus, was to demand enhanced police protection for the Electoral Commission (EC) to enable the declaration of the unresolved Ablekuma North parliamentary election results.
Reporting live from the scene, ABC News Ghana’s Andy Oppong Dankyi confirmed that the Minority had concluded the presentation of their petition.
The petition highlights the caucus’s concern over the EC’s delay in declaring the results, citing security concerns that have plagued attempts to collate and announce the outcome.
“We are hoping the IGP would do the needful,” Annoh-Dompreh noted, referencing the EC’s own plea for police support.
The political stalemate has left Ablekuma North without a parliamentary representative months after the 2024 elections, fueling mounting frustration within the opposition and the affected constituency.
