Private legal practitioner Yaw Dankwah has defended the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) decision to publicly declare former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, stating that no one is above the law.
His comment come in response to critics who argue that the case should have been handled diplomatically rather than making it a media spectacle.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Dankwah dismissed the notion that high-profile individuals deserve special treatment, asserting, “There is nothing called handling a criminal case diplomatically. No one is above the law.”
He further clarified that merely declaring someone wanted does not automatically imply guilt, stating, “If he has been declared wanted, it does not mean he has committed an offense.”
Dankwah also criticized the Attorney General (AG) for failing to prosecute similar cases in the past, warning that such selective actions make people believe that “prosecution in Ghana is political.”
While acknowledging the OSP’s lawful mandate, he urged the institution to clearly communicate the evidence and reasons behind their actions to restore public confidence in the justice system.
