The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive of justice after he failed to appear in person for questioning in ongoing corruption investigations.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, speaking at a press briefing on June 2, 2025, revealed that Ofori-Atta had requested to provide his caution statement via a video-recorded interview due to a recent cancer diagnosis.
However, the OSP declined the request, emphasizing the necessity for his physical presence in accordance with the agreement made in February 2025.
Despite the medical claims submitted through his legal team on May 28, Ofori-Atta did not present himself to the OSP by the stipulated deadline.
In response, the Special Prosecutor reclassified him as a wanted person and initiated extradition proceedings.
“His name is hereby re-entered into the OSP’s list of wanted persons,” Agyebeng stated.
Subsequently, the OSP issued an INTERPOL Red Notice to 196 member countries, seeking his provisional arrest and return to Ghana to face criminal inquiry.
The investigations cover a wide range of controversial issues, including petroleum and minerals revenue assurance, the termination of an ECG contract with BXC, financial irregularities in the National Cathedral project, procurement of ambulances by the Ministry of Health, and the management of the GRA’s Tax P-Fund.
The OSP reiterated its commitment to using all legal means to bring Mr. Ofori-Atta back to Ghana to face the ongoing criminal inquiries.
