Personnel from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), with support from operatives of the National Security Secretariat, have conducted a coordinated raid on the offices of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), as part of an ongoing investigation into a controversial contract exceeding $500 million.
The raid, which was executed under a court-issued search warrant, occurred simultaneously at SML’s locations in Osu and Tema. Sources familiar with the operation confirmed that the OSP is in the advanced stages of its probe and is particularly focused on retrieving electronic evidence stored on the company’s servers.
This latest development is tied to a broader investigation into financial irregularities connected to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The Special Prosecutor recently declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice, citing his failure to respond to summons relating to the SML deal and other transactions under scrutiny.
SML, originally registered as Strategic Mobilisation Enhancement Limited (SMEL), was formed shortly after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office in 2017. The company has come under fire for being awarded high-value contracts—initially through the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)—under questionable single-source procurement methods.
Despite the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) reportedly denying approval for such arrangements on three separate occasions, citing SML’s lack of relevant experience, the company secured contracts worth more than $100 million annually. The scope of these deals was later expanded to cover Ghana’s petroleum and mining sectors.
