Security expert Col. Festus Aboagye has called for an immediate review of security protocols at Ghana’s ports and airports following a recent suspicious flight believed to be linked to drug trafficking.
The flight allegedly transported cocaine and large sums of cash into the country, raising concerns about potential lapses in border security.
Col. Aboagye emphasized the need for a thorough assessment of the situation and urged security officials to provide a comprehensive report on their findings.
His call comes amid growing demands from the Minority in Parliament, which has insisted that National Security disclose details of the two aircraft suspected of smuggling illicit substances and money.
He assured the public that efforts were being made to investigate the issue, but stressed that security measures must be tightened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“A full review of security is necessary to ensure such activities do not go unchecked,” he stated.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed a full-scale investigation into the matter.
The President has tasked the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Police CID, and the National Security Coordinator with uncovering the facts behind the flights and ensuring Ghana does not become a hub for illicit trafficking.
As concerns mount over the effectiveness of airport security, Col. Aboagye’s call for stricter oversight has added to the pressure on authorities to act decisively.
