Dr. Rashid Tanko, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has backed the government’s decision to revoke public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.
According to Dr. Tanko, the move is both justified and necessary to safeguard the country’s financial health.
His comments follow an announcement by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who confirmed the cancellation of appointments made in the final days of the previous administration.
In an interview on ABC In the Morning, Dr. Tanko explained that the revocation aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s broader “Reset” initiative, which seeks to restore accountability and transparency in public service.
He criticized the previous government’s handling of the transition period, highlighting the lack of transparency and the potential financial strain caused by such appointments.
“The hypocrisy in this country is too much. We don’t call a spade a spade,” he said, referring to the accusations against the current administration.
Dr. Tanko also took issue with the previous government’s actions, particularly the delays in recruiting nurses and the failure to pay their allowances.
“Akufo-Addo was misbehaving, refusing to recruit the nurses. Their allowances were not paid, but she did not talk about it,” Dr. Tanko stated, suggesting the opposition now speaking on these issues were politically motivated.
He affirmed that the current government had no budgetary provision for such matters, emphasizing that the NDC would not follow the same approach as the previous administration.
