Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister-Designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has announced plans to transfer sanitation management under the Ministry of Local Government.
During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, he described sanitation as a critical area requiring focused oversight, promising to strengthen efforts at the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) level.
Ibrahim also highlighted the challenges associated with the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), acknowledging its potential but emphasizing the need for better implementation.
On the issue of state land sales, Ibrahim clarified his stance, asserting that “not all state land sales are the same.”
He emphasized the distinction between legally conducted transactions and illicit practices, stating, “Legal sale of state lands is not wrong.”
His remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of government land deals, with calls for transparency in managing state assets.
Ibrahim assured the Committee of his commitment to policy reforms aimed at enhancing local governance and service delivery.
