The Greater Accra Council of State election took a chaotic turn as tensions flared at the Regional Coordinating Council moments before the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The election, aimed at selecting a regional representative to advise the President, saw police intervention and the disruption of proceedings before calm was eventually restored.
Election Day Chaos
A total of 13 candidates initially contested the election, but three—
- Obed Nyarko
- Albert Borketey Naawu
- Musah Ziyad
—later withdrew, reducing the number of competitors to 10. The voting process, which began late at around 10:30 AM, progressed smoothly until the final moments when security officers blocked Musah Ziyad from entering the polling room with a group of individuals.
The incident escalated quickly, leading to heated confrontations and damage to property. Some officials, including Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo, had to exit the room for safety. However, police swiftly intervened, restoring order and allowing the results to be announced.

“We must set aside personal interests and work together to ensure meaningful development for the people of Greater Accra,” he stated.
