The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed an interlocutory injunction application filed by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, seeking to halt the proceedings of a presidential committee probing her potential removal from office.
The application, filed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, aimed to restrain the six-member committee established by President John Mahama from conducting any inquiry until the substantive constitutional challenge is heard and determined.
Justice Torkornoo had specifically asked the apex court to bar Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, along with other members including Daniel Yao Domelevo, Major Flora Bazuwaaruah Dalugo, and Professor James Sefah Dziasah, from participating in the committee’s work.
She also sought the disqualification of Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu from contributing to the committee’s deliberations.
However, in a ruling delivered on Wednesday, May 28, the Supreme Court rejected the application in its entirety.
The full written judgment is expected to be released on June 12, 2025, in what marks a major turn in the legal standoff surrounding the Chief Justice’s suspension.
