Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially begun a three-week medical leave effective April 7, 2025, on the advice of her doctors to focus fully on her health and recovery.
Sources at Jubilee House confirmed the development, noting that the Vice President’s condition had necessitated treatment abroad following initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.
While concerns over her health have sparked public speculation in recent days, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa moved to calm tensions and clarify the situation.
Speaking during a community engagement in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, Ablakwa assured Ghanaians that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is “recovering well” and is expected to resume her official duties upon completion of her medical leave.
“We are grateful for the love, prayers, and support coming from all corners of Ghana and the diaspora,” he added.
Addressing rumors surrounding her condition, Ablakwa condemned what he termed “vicious and unGhanaian propaganda,” emphasizing that the Vice President remains strong and focused on her mission.
He called on Ghanaians to rally behind her, highlighting her continued role as a trailblazer and a symbol of hope. “She is a beacon of inspiration to young girls and women across the country, breaking barriers and redefining leadership,” he stated.
