The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially concludes today, Wednesday, June 18, with the final paper—Arabic (Essay & Objective)—being administered nationwide.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the exams, describing this year’s exercise as smooth and largely incident-free, despite encountering a few logistical challenges.
Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday, June 17, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, praised the Council’s efforts and coordination. “I will say that on our part, we will pat ourselves on the back and say that we did a good job,” he stated.
“Usually, after examinations, what you expect as an examining body is that every candidate is provided the opportunity to write—in terms of questions, in terms of stationery. All of these things went to the candidates.”
While he acknowledged isolated delays—such as a breakdown of a vehicle delivering exam papers and difficulties accessing a remote location—Mr. Kapi noted that these were quickly addressed with additional support.
“On subsequent days, they decided to provide an extra vehicle, and so they were able to make it in good time,” he added. WAEC has declared the 2025 BECE a success.
