The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the government has evacuated a total of 85 Ghanaians from Cambodia between March and May this year, with an additional 76 currently being processed for evacuation.
Addressing concerns over a widely circulated notice on social media alleging that Ghanaian nationals had been ordered to leave Cambodia, Mr Ablakwa dismissed the document as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
He explained that even before the false notice began circulating, several Ghanaians in Cambodia had already reached out to the authorities requesting assistance to return home.
“Prior to the publication of this fake notice, a number of Ghanaians in Cambodia had reached out to us requesting to be evacuated, and are already being assisted by the Foreign Ministry and our High Commission in Malaysia,” Mr Ablakwa said in a statement posted on his X page.
He further provided details on the ongoing evacuation exercise, stressing government’s continued commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad.
“Between March and May this year, we have evacuated 85 Ghanaians from Cambodia. 76 more are being evacuated to complete the exercise.”
Mr Ablakwa assured that the welfare of Ghanaians living abroad remains a top priority for the government, adding that diplomatic missions are actively supporting affected nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana has since reiterated its caution against misinformation and urged the public to verify sensitive immigration-related claims before sharing them.
