Voting has officially begun across Ghana as the nation participates in its highly anticipated general election, with citizens casting ballots to elect a new president and 276 members of parliament.
The election, regarded as one of the most competitive in the country’s history, sees 12 candidates contesting for the presidency.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are the leading contenders.
However, confusion has erupted at the Art Center 4 polling station in the Klottey Korle Constituency, where some voters accused an Electoral Commission (EC) official of directing them on which party to vote for.
These allegations sparked tension among voters, prompting concerns about the integrity of the voting process at this particular polling station.
Despite the unrest, election officials are working to maintain order and ensure that the election runs smoothly.
As the voting day progresses, long queues have been seen at polling stations, and security agencies have been deployed to ensure peace and lawfulness.
Voters have been urged to adhere to electoral guidelines and cast their ballots responsibly, with the broader goal of maintaining Ghana’s reputation for credible and transparent elections.
