The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the commencement of Ghana’s new e-trackable passport delivery service via courier across all 16 regions, starting Monday, April 28, 2025.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the system is designed to eliminate the frustrations many applicants face in the passport acquisition process, which has led to over 70,000 passports remaining uncollected.
“Our convenient e-trackable delivery across all regions will end this nightmare. We are here to serve you,” he emphasized in a post on his official X page.
As part of the broader modernization efforts, Ghana will also roll out its first chip-embedded passports on the same day.
Mr. Ablakwa noted that the new documents boast cutting-edge security features, including nanotechnology and micro RFID chips, making them virtually impossible to forge.
“This represents a major leap forward in our efforts to stay ahead of emerging threats,” he said, highlighting that the new passports align with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards and aim to enhance border security, reduce identity fraud, and ease international travel for Ghanaians.
Additionally, Mr. Ablakwa announced the introduction of a 24-hour passport service, which promises door-to-door delivery for greater convenience and efficiency.
He urged citizens to avoid middlemen and engage only through official channels to prevent exploitation.
“The era of unofficial agents operating within our passport offices is unequivocally over,” he asserted, assuring that the Ministry, in partnership with reputable couriers, is committed to delivering secure and reliable passport services both domestically and abroad.
