Accra, June 16, 2025 — Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the nation that no Ghanaian has been injured or killed amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. In an official update posted on Facebook, Mr. Ablakwa said, “No Ghanaian fatality or injuries. Evacuation from Iran proceeding successfully.”
According to the minister, Ghana’s embassy in Israel has so far identified 922 Ghanaians currently living in the country, including 65 students enrolled across six Israeli universities. He emphasized that regular communication channels with the Ghanaian community in Israel have been activated to provide real-time updates and safety guidance.
Mr. Ablakwa noted that although Israel has declared a state of emergency and closed all borders, Ghana is actively pursuing clearance for evacuation. “An evacuation from Israel cannot be carried out now except with the express authorization of Israeli authorities — Ghana is pursuing those approval options,” he stated.
He further disclosed that all Ghanaians in Israel have been given access to bomb shelters, and embassy staff have been instructed to work from home in compliance with Israeli directives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved an Emergency Evacuation Plan for Israel, which will be triggered once conditions are deemed safe for departure.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, Mr. Ablakwa said, “President Mahama’s Administration is resolved to spare no effort in ensuring that Ghanaians caught up in this Israeli-Iranian conflict are offered full protection and removed from danger. We shall not fail our compatriots.”
