Televangelist Patricia Asiedua, known as Nana Agradaa, has publicly defended Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, amid backlash over his $800 gift to her.
Speaking out on the issue, Agradaa urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop criticizing the party’s National Communications Officer and instead focus on receiving blessings.
She dismissed the controversy as unnecessary, emphasizing that the $800 she received was a modest gift she requested for fuel.
“How much is $800? NDC supporters shouldn’t feel aggrieved because of this,” Agradaa said.
“The Bible says you should not covet your neighbour’s blessings; always tap into somebody’s blessings.” She reassured the public that the gift was of no significant amount, and urged those in the NDC not to worry about it, calling for unity instead.
Agradaa’s comments come after Gyamfi faced criticism for the timing of the gift, especially in light of President John Mahama’s launch of a new Code of Conduct for public appointees, which emphasizes integrity and accountability.
Despite the defense, the controversy has not died down. Sammy Gyamfi has since apologized, clarifying that the gesture was one of personal generosity and not politically motivated.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called for Gyamfi to provide an explanation regarding the gift, as discussions surrounding the incident continue to unfold.
