Minority Member of Parliament on the Health Committee, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, is calling for the alleged case of medical fraud involving Dr. Ann Sansa Daly to be treated as a criminal matter rather than a mere administrative lapse.
In an interview with ABC News GH, the MP stressed that beyond revoking her appointment, there must be full disclosure on how she was allowed to assume public office.
“We find it as a responsibility for them to let us know exactly why the so-called doctor had the opportunity to be in office,” he stated.
Mr. Acquah further emphasized that the issue must not be reduced to partisan politics.
“It should be treated as a criminal case, so they don’t just push it as a political matter,” he asserted, cautioning against attempts to sideline the matter under the current NDC administration.
He argued that individuals in similar situations have faced prosecution in the past, and this case should not be an exception.
His remarks follows his caucus, the Minority Caucus in parliament issuing a one-week ultimatum to the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) to clarify the registration status of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly.
This follows President John Dramani Mahama’s revocation of her appointment to the NHIA Board amid questions about her credentials.
The Caucus is demanding answers on whether Dr. Daly is or has ever been licensed to practice in Ghana and whether GMDC regulations allow unregistered individuals to publicly present themselves as medical practitioners.
