The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have launched a series of coordinated cordon and search operations in the area and its surroundings.

According to a statement released by the GAF on Monday, April 21, 2025, the move is part of a renewed effort to intensify military presence and respond to the recent upsurge in violent clashes and sporadic gunfire in Bawku and Binduri.

The statement revealed that in the early hours of Monday, gunshots were heard coming from the Binduri central market area. In response, troops stationed at Binduri swiftly moved in to secure the location and cordoned off the area.

A joint team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, with support from the Ghana Police Service, conducted detailed search operations to track down the perpetrators behind the gunfire. The operation led to the arrest of a suspected gunman, who has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Later in the day, GAF reported that unidentified gunmen attempted to infiltrate the Binduri area. However, military patrols on the ground thwarted the infiltration attempt. This led to an exchange of fire, but the attackers fled the scene without any reported casualties.

“The situation is currently under control, and troops remain on high alert to respond to any emerging threats,” the statement emphasized.

The GAF reiterated its commitment to restoring and maintaining peace in Bawku, noting that the military continues to work in close coordination with other security agencies to ensure lasting stability in the area.

In its closing remarks, the Armed Forces called on residents and the general public to cooperate fully with ongoing security efforts and to provide relevant information to aid in restoring normalcy.

“The Ghana Armed Forces remains dedicated to safeguarding the peace and security of Bawku and its environs,” the statement concluded.
