Environmental conservation group AROCHA Ghana, in collaboration with other environmental NGOs, has called for the removal of Eastern South Police Commander DCOP George Boadi Bossman and Kyebi Divisional Police Commander ACP Reynolds Sam over their alleged failure to curb illegal mining in the Eastern Region.
At a press conference in Accra on March 7, AROCHA’s Deputy National Director, Daryl Bosu, accused the officers of poor leadership and complicity, stating that despite ongoing efforts, water bodies like River Danso and River Birim continue to suffer from pollution caused by illegal mining.
The group also urged the government to replace the Executive Director of the Minerals Commission, citing a lack of decisive action in tackling illegal mining nationwide.
“We demand the replacement of these officers with dedicated personnel who will prioritize enforcement of mining regulations and halt the escalating impunity,” Bosu stated.
They emphasized the need for proactive law enforcement to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources and prevent further environmental degradation.
