The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has pledged to restore water supply to affected residents in Ashaiman West following three straight weeks of water shortage.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Communications Director of GWCL, Stanley Martey assured residents that solutions are being implemented to restore normal supply.
He attributed the prolonged crisis to energy repair issues at the Kpone Treatment Plant, leading to inconsistent water transmission. Additionally, he cited low pressure problems, making it difficult for water to reach some parts of the community.
“On rushing days, we have challenges pushing water to that area, but we are working to improve pressure levels,” he noted.
The official further apologized to residents for the situation, emphasizing that efforts were ongoing to rectify the issue.
“We apologize to them, and the most important thing is to ensure they have water—that is what we are working towards,” he reassured.
He urged residents to remain patient, assuring them that water supply would gradually improve as repairs are completed.
The company has also urged consumers to conserve water where possible and report any major leakages to help speed up restoration efforts.
As frustration mounts, some residents have called for better crisis communication from the GWCL.
In response, the Martey explained that affected customers were notified through social media and public address systems at the district level.
“All our customers in that area are on the various social media platforms we use for announcements. We also have public address systems at the district level,” he stated.
However, some residents have been seen resorting to unsafe and unhygienic water sources.
Communities severely affected by the prolonged water shortage include Zenu, School Junction, Atadeka, Peace Land, and Katamanso, leaving households struggling to cope.
