Parliament’s Appointments Committee has summoned activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor to substantiate his bribery allegations against the committee, following a directive by Chairman Bernard Ahiafor.
The activist, known for his outspoken criticism of public institutions, is expected to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, to present evidence to back his claims.
Chairman Ahiafor dismissed the allegations as “baseless,” stating on Tuesday, January 28, that no member of the committee had engaged in unethical practices.
“I am therefore directing the Clerk to the Committee to invite him to appear tomorrow to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law,” he asserted, emphasizing the need to uphold the committee’s integrity.
Meanwhile, some NPP members of the Appointments Committee have called for a suspension of vetting activities until Barker-Vormawor’s accusations are addressed.
The unfolding drama raises questions about the transparency of parliamentary proceedings and promises to keep the nation on edge.
