Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has disclosed that a total of $230 million has been paid towards the construction of the central bank’s new headquarters, with an outstanding balance of $31.8 million yet to be settled.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, Dr. Asiama noted that while the project was initiated before his tenure, the BoG remains committed to transparency in handling public funds.
“While this project was initiated before our tenure, we are fully aware of our responsibility to operate with transparency,” he stated.
Providing a breakdown of the cost adjustments, the Governor revealed that the project was initially valued at $81.8 million by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) but later revised to $121.1 million after the BoG requested a re-evaluation.
A further redesign and the inclusion of building management systems pushed the cost to $222.8 million, with additional security and sustainability considerations raising the total to $261.8 million.
“The new Board, which will be constituted next week, will begin reviewing some of these legacy issues to ensure value for money,” Dr. Asiama assured Parliament.
