A group of concerned stakeholders and loyal members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality has issued a strong statement to the party’s leadership and the Presidency, calling for the immediate withdrawal of Mr. John Matey as the nominated Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the NDC, the group described the nomination of Mr. Matey as a betrayal of the trust reposed in the party by its grassroots supporters. They claim that Mr. Matey lacks the moral authority, unifying character, and competence to serve as MCE, warning that his appointment could fracture the party’s base in the municipality.
“The nomination of Mr. Matey is not only a betrayal of the trust of the grassroots, but a direct affront to the democratic will of the people,” the statement read. “His divisive tendencies are well-documented, and his inability to inspire confidence across party lines and within the NDC itself makes his nomination a grave error.”
The group further questioned Mr. Matey’s commitment to the ideals of the NDC, alleging that he does not have a track record of loyalty or service to the party. They pointed instead to Mr. Felix Narh Amanor, whom they describe as the rightful nominee with deep roots in the party and a long-standing record of dedication and leadership.
Mr. Amanor, they assert, has been an active and loyal member of the NDC since 1992, serving in various roles and earning the trust of the people of Lower Manya Krobo. According to the group, his name had initially gone through the proper vetting processes but was inexplicably replaced.
“We demand to know: How did the name of Mr. Amanor get replaced? Who are these faceless individuals manipulating the will of the people?” the statement queried.
The group has called on H.E John Dramani Mahama and the Office of the Chief of Staff to intervene and reverse what they describe as a political injustice. They insist that the people of Lower Manya Krobo will not accept an “imposed candidate,” warning that failure to act could threaten the unity of the NDC in the area.
“This is not just about personalities, this is about justice, loyalty, competence, and the future of the NDC in Lower Manya,” the statement concluded.
The petition has been copied to several key stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary at the Office of the President, the Minister for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Eastern Regional NDC Chairman, and both current and former Members of Parliament for the constituency.
