The Africa Institute of Governance and Security (AIGS) has acknowledged Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as one of the most influential Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) in Ghana’s history.
In a statement issued on March 15 and addressed to the newly sworn-in IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the institute commended Dr. Dampare’s leadership, citing his strong emphasis on professionalism, internal accountability, and community engagement as transformative factors that restored public trust in the Ghana Police Service.
“Dr. Dampare’s tenure as IGP was defined by an exceptional commitment to disciplinary leadership that reshaped the Ghana Police Service,” the statement, signed by Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, Security Strategist and Governance Specialist, highlighted.
The institute further lauded Dr. Dampare’s key initiatives, including enhanced police visibility and rigorous anti-corruption measures, describing them as a testament to his “gallant leadership.”
It emphasized that his contributions would have a lasting impact on Ghana’s security framework.
While celebrating his legacy, the organization also congratulated IGP Yohuno on his appointment, expressing confidence that his four decades of experience and leadership would drive further transformation within the service.
“Your track record of operational excellence and dedication to public safety inspires confidence that you will build upon the solid foundation laid by Dr. Dampare while steering the Ghana Police Service toward even greater heights,” the statement added, wishing him success in his new role.
