Dr. Irene Quarshie, a Medical Doctor and Advocate for Women’s Mental Wellness, has called on women in leadership to take an active role in inspiring future generations.
Speaking to ABC News GH on Friday, March 7, she stressed that greater visibility of women in leadership positions is crucial to breaking barriers and empowering young women to pursue similar roles.
“We need to realize that representation matters,” she stated.
“Where are the women leaders? Let’s see them more often, because the more we see the people who look like us in leadership, the more we think we can do that.”
Her comments come on the eve of International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8, 2025.
This year’s theme in Ghana emphasizes the significance of affirmative action and the 30% quota for women in leadership.
While women have made notable progress in politics, business, and governance, challenges persist, particularly in achieving equitable representation.
The affirmative action initiative aims to bridge this gap by ensuring that women not only participate in leadership but also hold key decision-making roles.
As Ghana joins the world in marking this day, Dr. Quarshie’s call serves as a timely reminder of the need for women to step forward, be seen, and pave the way for future generations.
