The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to hold discussions with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the long-standing delay in the declaration of the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary election results.
Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa stated that the engagement would provide an opportunity for both parties to address their concerns and reach a resolution.
“We will have an in-depth meeting to discuss it,” she said, but no specific date was given for the discussions.
The Ablekuma North parliamentary results have been delayed due to incomplete results sheets from three polling stations, despite 278 out of 281 polling stations having their results verified.
Disputes between the NDC and NPP over the outstanding polling stations have led to repeated suspensions of the process, including a major disruption on January 8, 2025, when the Returning Officer resigned over disagreements about the authentication of pink sheets.
Since then, tensions have escalated in the constituency, with supporters of both parties clashing over the outcome.
Both the NDC and NPP have declared victory, with the NDC claiming its candidate, Ewurabena Aubyn, won the contest, while the NPP insists Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie was victorious.
In a show of confidence, both parties have already mounted billboards thanking voters for their support, further deepening the controversy.
The EC, however, has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to finalize the results and bring clarity to the contentious election.
