The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested Faisal Alhassan, the alleged mastermind behind the Tamale Central Market shooting incident, alongside two other suspects, Osman Mohammed (Nyohini Zaachi) and Yakubu Mohammed (Chairman).
Alhassan, who is the son of the Paramount Chief of the Gulkpegu Traditional Council, was apprehended on February 10, 2025, at the Tamale High Court premises while attending the trial of another suspect.
According to the police, Alhassan is accused of leading an armed group that opened fire on traders and civilians over a disputed parcel of land allegedly owned by businessman Alhassan Fuseini.
The police confirmed that Faisal Alhassan was transferred to Accra on the direct orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for further investigations, while the two other suspects, Osman Mohammed (Nyohini Zaachi) and Yakubu Mohammed (Chairman), remain in custody.
Their arrests follow warrants issued by the Tamale High Court on February 3, 2025, after the suspects failed to appear before the court regarding the January 28 shooting incident.

Meanwhile, a fourth suspect, Rashid Zakaria, according to Police sources.
The prosecution has presented compelling evidence indicating that Alhassan and his group orchestrated the attack, equipping themselves with AK-47 rifles, G3s, and other firearms before launching the assault.
Victims, including Alhassan Seidu, Eric Kofi Mensah, and Shaibu Abdul Ganiu, sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to Tamale Teaching Hospital.
