The Ministry of Finance has assured staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) that their long-awaited Operational Support Allowance will be addressed by the end of July 2025.
William Ampomah, Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate at the NIA, disclosed this on ABC Midday News on Monday, following a crucial meeting between NIA management and the Finance Ministry.
“The ministry has promised to settle the matter by July ending. This new development follows our meeting with them today,” he said.
This commitment comes on the heels of the NIA staff’s decision to suspend their nationwide strike, which began on June 24, 2025, after prolonged negotiations yielded no results.
The strike was triggered by the delay in the payment of the Operational Support Allowance—the only supplementary benefit for NIA staff.
A public notice signed by Mr. Ampomah on Sunday, June 29, confirmed the suspension, citing fruitful discussions with stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the leadership of the PSWU.
Mr. Ampomah further assured the public that full services have resumed across all NIA registration centres and offices nationwide.
