The Government of Ghana has taken a step toward easing international travel after Cabinet approved visa waiver agreements with Zambia, Maldives, and Antigua and Barbuda.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a statement shared on Wednesday, April 22. According to the Minister, the agreements form part of broader efforts to deepen diplomatic ties and enhance travel convenience between Ghana and its international partners.
Under the proposed arrangements, citizens of Ghana and the three countries will be allowed to travel visa-free for short stays of up to 30 days per visit. The waiver is expected to cover all categories of passports, including ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports.
The agreements are not yet in force, as they must first be presented to Parliament for ratification before implementation.
Mr Ablakwa noted that the move reflects government’s ongoing commitment to expanding Ghana’s global connections while promoting easier movement for its citizens.
He added that authorities will continue to explore similar agreements with other countries, alongside efforts to reinforce security in the issuance of Ghanaian passports.
