The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two new Mpox cases in the Greater Accra and Western Regions, raising the total number of infections in the country to four.
In a press release issued on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and signed by Acting Director General Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the GHS clarified that the latest cases are not epidemiologically linked to the earlier infections reported on May 15.
Regional health teams have since activated contact tracing and other containment strategies to prevent further spread.
The GHS cautioned the public that Mpox is a viral illness transmitted through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials, with symptoms such as rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches.
Citizens have been urged to practise proper hand hygiene and report suspected cases promptly.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health,” the GHS assured, calling on media houses to support awareness campaigns.
Authorities expressed confidence in managing the outbreak, citing experience from past infectious disease responses.
