The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a significant 31.52% decline in prank calls during the first quarter of 2025, receiving 131,862 prank calls compared to 192,545 within the same period in 2024. T
his drop has been attributed to the Service’s intensified public education and advocacy efforts across media outlets, schools, communities, and digital platforms.
Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong praised the public for positively responding to the campaign against prank calls, stating, “This behavioural shift is critical to saving lives and improving emergency response.”
She further emphasized that prank calls undermine operations and are a criminal offense punishable under Ghanaian law.
The GNFS reaffirmed its commitment to efficient emergency response and urged citizens to report real fire emergencies via toll-free lines 192 or 112, or through hotlines 0302772446 and 0299340383.
