Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe is preparing for critical discussions with transport operators, including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), amidst growing pressure over potential fare hikes.
The talks come after the third consecutive fuel price increase this year, heightening concerns among both drivers and commuters about the rising cost of transportation.
Transport unions have long pointed to escalating operational expenses as a major challenge, sparking speculation of an imminent fare adjustment.
Previously, the GPRTU had postponed fare review discussions, awaiting engagement with an officially appointed transport minister.
Now that Nikpe is in office, the long-awaited negotiations are expected to pave the way for possible fare restructuring.
During a recent media engagement, the minister expressed optimism about reaching a favourable resolution.
Despite ongoing speculation about fare hikes, he refrained from commenting on any specific outcomes.
