The government has directed the immediate evacuation of students from Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding areas following the tragic killing of three senior high school students on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister and Spokesperson to the President, as tensions continue to rise in the conflict-prone zone.
The directive follows a curfew imposed by the Ministry of the Interior, effective from 2 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, aimed at restoring calm and supporting safe evacuation efforts.
“Government wants to stress that in addition to helping to enforce peace, the curfew is intended to create an environment conducive to the evacuation of all students in various educational institutions in affected areas, some of whom have been unfortunately targeted in the conflict,” the statement read.
The move comes in the wake of two students of Nalerigu SHS being shot and killed on campus Saturday night, an incident that has left the school and surrounding community in shock.
In a related development, another student of Bawku SHS was also fatally shot on the same day.
While police investigations are ongoing and the motive remains unclear, many suspect a link to the long-standing Bawku tribal conflict.
The attacks have heightened fear and unrest in the area, prompting urgent calls for enhanced security and swift justice.
