The Government of Ghana has commenced a nationwide reforestation campaign under the banner “Tree for Life”, with plans to distribute twenty million tree seedlings across the country.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, announced the initiative during an address to Parliament, noting that the national tree planting exercise will be done from today, Thursday, 5th June 2025, and will run until Sunday, 30th June 2025.
According to the Minister, this new programme builds on the success of the Green Ghana Day campaign, but with a broader scope and a longer planting window to ensure wider participation nationwide.
“This is a critical national exercise,” he stated.
“We will plant over 20 million seedlings of various tree species—timber, fruit, ornamental, and shade trees. Unlike the past where the exercise was restricted to a single day, the Tree for Life initiative gives every Ghanaian nearly a month to take part.”

Seedlings have already been delivered to districts across the country, and the Minister has called on Members of Parliament to lead by example in their constituencies, especially on World Environment Day, which falls on Friday, 7th June 2025.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Forestry Commission, local assemblies, traditional authorities, civil society organisations, and environmental groups.
