Minister of Communications, Sam George, has declared that the government will withdraw the frequency authorization of media houses that continue to broadcast unwholesome content.
Speaking during a press briefing on key innovations and developments in the communications sector, the minister issued a strong warning to broadcasters to take responsibility for the kind of content they air, especially in protecting children.
“We will clamp down on stations who continue to broadcast inappropriate material,” he said. “Because if you will not self-regulate, the state will regulate you.”
Sam George emphasized that media owners must act with greater responsibility, stressing that the state will no longer tolerate content that poses a threat to national values and the development of children.
He urged broadcasters to adopt ethical standards and prioritize the well-being of their audience.
“Media houses and owners must protect children from harmful influences. This is a duty they cannot ignore,” he stated.
The minister also touched on other developments in the sector, revealing that the unique data package offered during the recent Independence Day celebration will be replicated during four other national holidays.
Additionally, he announced that special legislation to address the spread of fake news will be introduced when Parliament resumes.
These measures, he said, are part of a broader strategy to ensure responsible communication and protect public interest in the digital age.
