President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the implementation of recommendations from the National Economic Dialogue is already producing measurable results.
Speaking during his national address on the expiration of his 120-day Social Contract, he stated, “Implementation of National Economic Dialogue recommendations already yielding results,” emphasizing that the dialogue was held as planned to assess the true state of the economy and guide the development of a homegrown fiscal consolidation strategy.
Key proposals from the dialogue included expanding the tax base through reforms in property taxes and VAT, improving revenue compliance under the Public Financial Management Act, and introducing fiscal responsibility legislation.
It also emphasized reforming state-owned enterprises with transparent reporting and governance practices, alongside measures to empower women through skills development.
Renowned business executive Dr. Ishmael Yamson stressed the importance of strengthening internal audit systems and establishing a credible expenditure framework to ensure sustainable public financing.
In support of the president’s remarks, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that “substantial progress has been made,” highlighting improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, job creation, and anti-corruption efforts. He described the 120-day Social Contract as a benchmark for transparency and accountable governance.
