Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has officially been declared “Wanted” by INTERPOL and is now listed on the organisation’s Red Notice database.
The update comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) re-declared him as a fugitive on June 2, 2025, following his failure to appear for a scheduled interrogation.
At a press conference on June 2, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed that his office had initiated extradition proceedings and requested INTERPOL’s assistance to track and return Ofori-Atta to Ghana.

The former minister is under investigation for multiple high-profile corruption-related cases, including allegations of improper contractual dealings and financial mismanagement.
Among the cases under probe are revenue assurance contracts between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the controversial termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC), and the handling of funds related to the National Cathedral project.

Also included are allegations surrounding the procurement of ambulances by the Ministry of Health and the management of GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.
On INTERPOL’s website, the charge against Ofori-Atta is clearly listed as “using public office for profit.” The OSP has reiterated its commitment to bringing him back to Ghana through lawful international cooperation channels.
