The Ministry of Health has directed the immediate suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, for a period of two weeks.
According to a letter dated June 5, 2026, signed and issued from the Ministry’s office in Accra, the directive was based on Section 36(1) of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 526), which empowers the relevant authorities to suspend senior officials where necessary.

The decision, which takes immediate effect, follows concerns over actions attributed to the Chief Executive Officer, including alleged contravention of directives issued by the President of the Republic of Ghana.
The suspension is also linked to an earlier development in which the hospital reportedly announced the suspension of emergency admissions on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 — a move that triggered public concern and internal scrutiny.
The letter further indicates that during a meeting with the Ministry, the CEO admitted to acting contrary to clear presidential directives, particularly in relation to comments made during an interview with Channel One Newsroom regarding the matter.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, the Technical Advisor to the Minister, and the Legal Advisor.
The Ministry has also ordered a further investigation into the circumstances under which the CEO granted the said interview and whether due management approval was obtained before engaging the media outlet.
The Board Chairman of KATH has been tasked to ensure compliance with the suspension directive and to submit a detailed report to the Ministry within two weeks, outlining findings and recommendations.
The suspended CEO is expected to report to the Ministry upon completion of the two-week suspension period.
