Doctors at the Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) have suspended their strike action just hours after withdrawing services at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 4, 2026, KODA said the decision followed an emergency meeting with hospital management and assurances that laboratory physicians would return to their posts at the facility’s Central Laboratory.

The Association noted that the resolution of tensions between laboratory physicians and medical laboratory scientists was critical to maintaining quality healthcare delivery at the hospital.
“The Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) is formally notifying management and the public of the suspension of the strike action commenced this morning,” the statement said.
KODA further expressed confidence that a harmonious working relationship among staff at the Central Laboratory would support efficient service delivery and patient care.
The doctors have therefore directed all members to resume Out-Patient Department (OPD) services from Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The strike, which began earlier in the day, had disrupted OPD services at the hospital, raising concerns among patients who rely on the country’s premier referral facility for care.
Hospital management is yet to publicly comment on the latest development, but the suspension is expected to bring relief to patients and restore normal operations at the OPD.
