President has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, discipline and accountability stressing that lasting economic progress cannot be achieved without a corresponding moral transformation of society.
Addressing the nation during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving in Accra, on July 1, 2026, President Mahama said Ghana’s quest for economic recovery and national development must be grounded in strong ethical values and responsible leadership.

According to the President, efforts to rebuild the country’s economy will yield only temporary results if they are not supported by honesty, transparency and a renewed sense of civic responsibility among both public officials and citizens.
“Economic transformation without moral transformation cannot endure,” President Mahama said, urging Ghanaians to make integrity and patriotism central to national life.
He noted that corruption, indiscipline and the erosion of public trust continue to undermine national development, emphasizing that every Ghanaian has a role to play in building a society founded on justice, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
President Mahama also encouraged religious leaders to continue promoting peace, tolerance and ethical leadership describing faith based institutions as important partners in shaping the moral character of the nation.
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving brought together government officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of civil society to pray for peace, unity and prosperity for Ghana.
The event comes as the country works to strengthen economic growth, create employment opportunities, improve public service delivery and address the effects of recent natural disasters including severe flooding in parts of the country.
Political analysts say the President’s remarks are expected to rekindle public debate on the relationship between good governance, ethical leadership and sustainable national development. They argue that while economic policies remain critical, their success depends largely on public confidence, institutional integrity and adherence to the rule of law.
President Mahama concluded by urging all Ghanaians to put the national interest above personal gain and work together to build a prosperous, united and disciplined nation capable of meeting the aspirations of future generations.
