President John Dramani Mahama has pledged six months of his salary to the newly launched MahamaCares Policy, a bold social intervention aimed at delivering specialized medical care to Ghanaians who fall outside the coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Speaking during the official launch of the programme today, Mr. Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to compassionate leadership, emphasizing that no Ghanaian should be left to suffer or die simply because they cannot afford critical healthcare.
“Today we are not lunching just an initiative, we are launching hope.”
The MahamaCares Project and the accompanying MahamaCares Trust Fund are designed to provide financial and medical support to persons battling life-threatening conditions such as cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, stroke, and heart disease.
Already, prominent individuals including Professor Ayitey have made $1000 contributions to the Fund, signaling strong public endorsement and momentum behind the policy.
This announcement aligns with Mahama’s broader vision of inclusive governance and a people-centered development agenda.
“The initiative will progressively cover other illnesses” the President announced.
