The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has publicly apologized to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following an alleged raid on his residence by military and police officers.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, while Mr. Ofori-Atta was out of the country, was reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, an official at the National Security Coordinator’s office.
Addressing the matter in Parliament, Ayariga described the operation as regrettable and reaffirmed the Mahama government’s commitment to upholding citizens’ rights.
“H.E. President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to ensuring that the rights and liberties of every individual are respected. We have received assurances from the office of the National Security Coordinator that the incident was not intended to happen,” Ayariga stated.
He added that Jakpa had assured Parliament such an event would not recur and extended a personal apology to Ofori-Atta, emphasizing that institutions must function properly and officials must act within the law.
The raid has sparked controversy, with the Office of the Special Prosecutor alleging that the incident was staged.
Ofori-Atta has been named a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations and is wanted for questioning.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has urged the former minister to return immediately for interrogation, warning that legal action could be taken to compel his return if he fails to comply.
