The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, has confirmed that the highly anticipated meeting between the committee and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) was postponed due to the absence of the Ministers for Health and Finance.
Speaking to ABC Midday News on Friday, Dr. Yiadom explained, “Due to absence of Health Minister and Finance,” the meeting, initially scheduled for June 26, has now been pushed to July 10, 2025. He added,
“They are the officials from the government. So it is just right to have them during the ministry,” and urged nurses to remain calm, assuring that “we are working behind the scene to make sure they hear good news.”
His remarks come in response to a press conference by GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, who expressed disappointment over the rescheduling of the meeting.
According to the association, it was officially notified on June 25 by the Parliamentary Service of the new date.
The meeting was intended to address grievances that led to a nationwide strike by nurses and midwives on June 2, which escalated into a full withdrawal of services by June 9.
The strike was suspended on June 13 following parliamentary and public interventions.
Ms. Ofori-Ampofo warned that further delays could threaten the implementation of key resolutions that formed the basis for the strike’s suspension.
