The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Mrs. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has stated that the government has achieved a 23% female appointment quota in President Mahama’s cabinet.
Addressing Parliament today, she emphasized that this milestone reflects the administration’s commitment to gender inclusivity and empowerment.
However, the Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, strongly refuted the claim, arguing that the actual figure is only 10%, not 23%.
He accused the government of exaggerating its achievements and called for transparency in the appointment process.
“The data is false and is 10% not 23%,” he stated in Parliament.
This disagreement comes amid growing public scrutiny of the government’s commitment to gender equality.
The debate also follows President Mahama’s campaign promise ahead of the December 2024 elections, where he pledged to increase female representation in leadership roles.
