Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed claims surrounding his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), describing the narrative surrounding his arrest as false.
In a statement issued shortly after meeting his bail conditions and securing his release, Mr. Aboagye insisted that misleading information had been circulated following his detention, maintaining that the truth would ultimately prevail.
“Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO. A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye also denied reports suggesting he was questioned over an alleged GH¢55 million matter during his detention.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None,” he stressed.
The NPP communicator expressed gratitude to party supporters who publicly demanded his release, saying their solidarity gave him strength throughout the period of detention.
“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you. From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall,” he said.
According to him, the support demonstrated by party members was not only for his personal freedom but also for the principle of protecting free expression.
“You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence,” he added.
Mr. Aboagye concluded by thanking his legal team, the leadership of the NPP and supporters across the country for standing by him during the ordeal.
