The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a public notice reminding Ghanaians that the first-time issuance of the Ghana Card remains free at its 276 Operational District Offices nationwide.
This clarification comes amid concerns over fees associated with obtaining the card at Premium Centres. According to the NIA, while district offices offer free first-time registration, those opting for Premium Centres will have to pay an approved fee, as set by Parliament in 2023.
To streamline services and ensure transparency, the NIA has introduced structured fees for first-time issuance and other card-related services at its Premium Centres.
The charges include GH₵310.00 for first-time issuance, GH₵125.00 for card replacement, and GH₵420.00 for record updates with card replacement.
Additionally, nationality updates cost GH₵70.00, while general record updates remain free at district offices but cost GH₵310.00 at Premium Centres.
These fees, the NIA states, are necessary to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
The Ghana Card has become a critical national identification document, facilitating access to government services and other essential transactions.
The NIA urges citizens to take advantage of the free issuance at district offices while ensuring that those seeking expedited services at Premium Centres are aware of the costs.
The authority assures the public of its commitment to a transparent and efficient identification system, emphasizing that all charges have been duly approved by Parliament.
