A District Court in Sunyani has placed strict travel restrictions on former Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, in connection with the violent clash that led to the death of Francis Frimpong, a devoted Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter.
Baffour-Awuah, who is also the owner and financier of Nsoatreman FC, was ordered not to leave the Sunyani Municipality without prior judicial approval as part of his bail conditions.
The court, presided over by Eric Daning, issued the directive on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, when the former Sunyani West MP appeared alongside his bodyguard, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and another suspect, Joseph Kyeremeh.
Murder Charges and Bail Conditions
The three men are facing legal action following a violent incident that occurred at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium on Sunday, February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko. The clash led to the tragic killing of Francis Frimpong, sparking outrage among football fans.
Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh have been charged with “abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder” under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29).
Despite the severity of the charges, both men were granted bail at GH¢500,000 with one surety each, to be justified. Additionally, Baffour-Awuah was ordered to surrender his passport to the court registry for 14 days as part of his bail conditions.
