The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), demanding the immediate release of all withheld 2024 WASSCE results. Failure to comply, they warn, will trigger a wave of nationwide protests.
At a press conference, NUGS President Daniel Korley expressed frustration over WAEC’s prolonged investigations, stating that the student body had formally written to the council as far back as January 2, yet over a month later, students remain in limbo.
“Whatever investigation they are doing, they should conclude within the week,” Korley asserted. “Failing which, we are going to commence a series of protests, occupying their offices nationwide.”
Threat of Mass Action Against WAEC
The student union did not mince words about the potential fallout should WAEC fail to act promptly.
“We will make sure we make it uncomfortable for them,” Korley declared, hinting at aggressive demonstrations if WAEC does not meet their demands.
He further demanded a definitive end to the practice of withholding results without a clear resolution process.
“This should be the last time we have withheld results. It’s either you have canceled the results, or you have released them,” he emphasized. “And before you cancel any results, students should go through the proper process, and even after cancellation, there should be an avenue for appeal.”
